McEachin Announces Over $225,000 in Grant Funding for Virginia Humanities

Richmond, VA - Today, Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) announced two grants being delivered to Virginia, totaling $229,671, from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The Library of Virginia will receive $219,801 to help digitize historic newspapers, and the Virginia Department of Historical Resources will receive $9,870 to help care for and preserve their humanities collections.

"Preserving and understanding our history is essential for us to appreciate it, learn from it, and progress to a better and more enlightened society and government," said Rep. McEachin (VA-04). "Historic newspapers give us an unvarnished window into the past, helping us to more fully understands the lives and experiences of those times. Additionally, our curated humanities collections ensure that Virginians, wherever they live in the Commonwealth, have access to materials and exhibits that help them understand and learn from the past. This grant funding is critically important and will help preserve our history for future generations."

This round of funding, NEH's third and last for fiscal year 2022, will support vital humanities research, education, preservation, and public programs. These peer-reviewed grants were awarded in addition to $52 million in annual operating support provided to the national network of state and jurisdictional humanities councils.
