The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) through the Water Resources Management Division (WRMD) is conducting a workshop on the Updating of the National Small-Scale Irrigation Project (SSIP) Masterplan for CY 2025-2026. The workshop is being held at the Philippine Coconut Authority - Coconut Enterprise Development Center (PCA-CEDC), from October 7-11, 2024, and is participated in by representatives from various DA Agencies, including the DA-Regional Field Office (RFO) Regional Agricultural Engineering Office (RAED), DA-RFO Field Operations Division (FOD), DA-Banner Programs, Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), and Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MAFAR-BARMM). Their participation highlights the collaborative efforts among stakeholders in enhancing water resource management and the development of the SSIP Masterplan.
Focused on updating four (4) vital components of the SSIP Masterplan: Infrastructure Development; Watershed Management; Extension, Support, Education and Training Services (ESETS); and Research and Development, this workshop aims to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of water resource management in the agriculture sector.
Dr. Gina Parde-Nilo, Director of BSWM, represented by Engr. Diosdado M. Manalus, delivered the Welcome and Inspirational messages. In addition, the Rationale and Overview of the Workshop was presented by Engr. Manalus, highlighting its importance in updating the SSIP Masterplan and emphasizing the collaborative efforts needed to enhance water resource management in agriculture.
