Jury Finds Winsted Man Guilty of Sexual Assault and Risk of Injury to a Minor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Litchfield, CT) - Litchfield Judicial District State's Attorney David R. Shannon announced today that a Superior Court jury on March 27, 2024found Michael R. Mansfield, age 64, of Winsted, guilty of the crimes of Sexual Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2), Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a(a)(1)(A), and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2). The Honorable Jason M. Lobo presided over the jury trial.

According to evidence introduced at trial, the defendant sexually assaulted a female victim for a period of about four years, between 2012 and 2016, while the victim was between the ages of 7 and 11. The assaults occurred in the defendant's home in Winsted.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 31, 2024 in Litchfield Superior Court in Torrington.

The case was investigated by the Winchester Police Department, and was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State's Attorney Terri L. Sonnemann, with assistance from Deputy Assistant State's Attorney Alessandra Santacroce, Paralegal Specialist Melissa Brewer, and Inspector Forrest J. Beaulieu.
