Solomon Airlines to temporarily cease Choiseul Bay services due to airfield upgrade program

Solomon Airlines flights to and from Choiseul Bay will be temporarily cancelled from 28 August to
22 October as works progress on the upgrading of Choiseul Bay airfield.

Solomon Airlines' Choiseul Bay flights scheduled for Saturday 5 August will shift to Sunday 6 August due to works to the runway surface.

Then from the end of August, for a period of 6 to 8 weeks the Choiseul Bay airfield will again be closed for all aircraft operations to allow construction contractors to access the full length of the runway for reconstruction and resurfacing.

Solomon Airlines has advised that all passengers with bookings during this time, have the option to fly between either Honiara and Ballalae Airport or Honiara and Nusatupe Airport at Gizo, or delay travel to a later time. Passengers will need to make their own arrangements for sea transport between Ballalae or Gizo and Choiseul Bay.

The work is being completed under the Solomon Islands Provincial Airfields Upgrade Project (SI PAU) project which will see major infrastructure improvements at Choiseul Bay and Seghe.
