I-44 Lanes CLOSED at Night at Lawrence Co. Road 1100 Bridge Feb. 19-23 …

Lawrence County - I-44 lanes will be CLOSED at night near Mile Marker 42.6 when the bridge deck/driving surface of Lawrence County Road 1100 bridge over I-44 west of Mt. Vernon is removed Monday, February 19 through Friday, February 23, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will remove the bridge deck/driving surface and replace it with a new surface.

The bridge will remain closed until mid-summer to complete the work.

Traffic impacts:

During demolition of the bridge deck/driving surface, I-44 will be CLOSED during these times:

  • All eastbound I-44 lanes
    • 9 p.m., Monday, February 19 - 6 a.m. Tuesday, February 20
    • 9 p.m., Tuesday, February 20 - 6 a.m., Wednesday, February 21
    • Traffic will be diverted south on Missouri Route 97 (Exit 38), east on Outer Road 44 to Lawrence County Route H, back to eastbound I-44 (Exit 44)
  • All westbound I-44 lanes
    • 10 p.m., Wednesday, February 21 - 6 a.m., Thursday, February 22
    • 10 p.m., Thursday, February 22 - 6 a.m., Friday, February 23
    • Traffic will be diverted on to Lawrence County Route H (Exit 44), west to Missouri Route 97, back to westbound I-44 (Exit 38)
  • All I-44 lanes OPEN to traffic during daytime hours
  • No signed detours for Lawrence County Road 1100 closure, drivers are urged to find alternate routes
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone

The current structure was built in 1964 and is experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 215 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.

This work is part of a three-year project to improve 25 bridges within 15 miles of I-44 across the Southwest District. Of the 25 bridges in the project, known as the I-44 Corridor Bridge Bundle, seven (7) are mainline I-44 bridges, five (5) are I-44 overpass bridges and the remaining bridges are on adjacent routes over various features. Sixteen (16) bridges will be replaced and nine (9) bridges will receive major rehabilitation work. So far, 17 bridges in the project have been completed.
