Funding to support Quispamsis playground improvements

QUISPAMSIS (GNB) - The provincial and federal governments are investing a combined $447,200 in renovations and infrastructure upgrades for a playground in Quispamsis. The improvements include an accessible splash pad and public washroom facilities.

"Our communities and families thrive when they have community spaces that promote social interaction and physical activity," said Premier Blaine Higgs. "In addition to this, our population and economic growth are closely linked to the vitality of communities in the province, like Quispamsis."

The new construction will meet accessibility standards important for youth and special needs groups and will create a safe and comfortable place to bring the community together, said Crossman.

"Investing in recreation areas promotes people's health and well-being, and builds inclusive and sustainable communities where people want to live, work and raise families," said Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long. "Projects like this in our region offer a place for all residents to form lasting memories with their families and friends, in a vibrant and accessible location, for years to come."

Long attended for federal Official Languages Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor, who is also minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

The provincial government is providing $220,000 for the project through the Regional Development Corporation while the federal government is investing $227,200 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund.

"These types of investments in recreational infrastructure are what make Quispamsis a community of choice," said Mayor Libby O'Hara. "They are only possible thanks to strong partnerships and continued co-operation and collaboration among all three levels of government."
