Radiology Professionals’ Opportunity to “Commit to Act” to Advance Health Equity

Reston, VA - Radiology professionals now have the opportunity to 'Commit to Act' to advance health equity. The online commitment signals to patients, communities and colleagues that individuals are committed to addressing health disparities and improving health outcomes for the underserved. American College of Radiology® (ACR®) President Geraldine McGinty, MD, MBA, FACR, announced the new opportunity today at the ACR 2021 Annual Meeting, available through the emerging Radiology Health Equity Coalition.

'The ACR has made a commitment to advance health equity through our collaboration with other Coalition members and our advocacy, research, artificial intelligence development and application as well as our radiology trainees and medical student recruitment efforts. We are here to support radiologists who make this public commitment as well. I urge radiologists to commit to advance health equity today,' said McGinty.

The new Radiology Health Equity Coalition will bring together the radiology community to address health disparities and measurably change outcomes. This mobilized network of patient-focused radiologists will collect and disseminate resources and best practices, advocate for and connect with patients and community members, and collaborate on programs and services to empower others to act.

'As radiology touches nearly every part of patient care, radiologists are uniquely positioned to spearhead efforts to address health disparities and accommodate diverse patient population needs. I encourage all to pledge their commitment and action to advance this vital initiative,' said Jacqueline A. Bello, MD, FACR, Chair of the Radiology Health Equity Coalition and Vice Chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors.

The Coalition is initially being mobilized by the American College of Radiology (ACR), Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments (SCARD), Association of University Radiologists (AUR) and American Board of Radiology (ABR). More radiology organizations and individuals have indicated their commitment to advancing health equity and are expected to join this effort over the coming months.
