‘Way Out West – Photography Competition’
Entries are now open for Wyndham's 8th annual Way Out West Youth Photography Competition.
Wyndham City's Libraries and Youth Services invite local young people to enter their best photograph to be in the running to win one of the six prizes up for grabs. Entries are open until 4pm Wednesday, 31 May 2023.
Learning City portfolio holder Cr Jasmine Hill said: "If you are a young person aged between 12 and 25 years who reside, toil, study or socialise in Wyndham, and are looking for a way to express your creative impulses, then this competition is tailor-made for you!"
"Photography is a creative and deeply personal emotional expression that enables one to wave a tale through each captured image. You have the golden chance to exhibit your prodigious skills and unleash your creativity to the fullest." Cr Hill said.
"Capture the moments, freeze the memories, and let your pictures do the talking."
"This is an exceptional opportunity for you to showcase your photographic skills and perhaps, even make a name for yourselves in the world of photography," stated Cr Hill.
"Who knows, maybe you'll become the next David Mullins or Imran Abul Kashem in Wyndham! Or maybe you'll just end up with a ton of followers on Instagram. Either way, it's a win-win situation. So, grab your cameras or phones and get snapping!"
The Way Out West Photography Competition features a number of different prize categories including: the Way Out West Prize (image that best captures life in Wyndham), Best Landscape, Best Portrait, Best Black and White Image, Best Use of Colour, and of course the overall winner 'Grand Prize' based on content and artistic merit. Entrants are encouraged to submit images using the prize categories as creative prompts.
Winners will be announced on Thursday 13 July 2023 on Council's website and social media pages.
Council's Creative City portfolio holder, Cr Marcel Mahfoud, said: "This is a great opportunity for budding photographers and local creatives to make a mark and gain recognition for their creativity, and at the same time explore the many wonders of Wyndham."
"There are plenty of prizes up for grabs including $500 for the overall winner."
"A series of free photography workshops are being facilitated by photographer Imran Abul Kashem. It's a great opportunity to learn new techniques."
