On Sept. 25, the Gresham Police Department held its annual award ceremony to recognize officers and professional staff for exemplary acts of service and heroism from the 2023 calendar year.
Officers were given Lifesaving Awards for their response to four incidents, including two shootings, a stabbing, and a house fire. A detective, a sergeant, and two criminalists were presented with the Meritorious Service Award. An officer and a sergeant received the Distinguished Service Medal. Two officers received the Medal of Commendation with Valor. Two officers also received the Medal of Valor, the highest award granted by the Gresham Police Department.
The Department also recognized the Search and Rescue teams from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and the Washington County Sheriff's Office for their outstanding assistance with a major case investigation.
"The officers, professional staff, and the search and rescue volunteers we honored today represent the highest ideals of professionalism and service we all strive to achieve. They are a credit to the Gresham Police Department and the law enforcement profession," said Chief Travis Gullberg. "Their actions represent a small fraction of the heroism our employees show every day. We are lucky to have them protecting our community."
