San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park Announces Labor History Talks Series

San Francisco, CA - On Sunday, July 9, 2023, the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association, in partnership with San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, is launching a new "Labor History Talks" series. The inaugural event features San Francisco State University Professor Robert Cherny and author of the new biography, Harry Bridges: Labor Radical, Labor Legend.

Professor Cherny, in conversation with labor historian and curator, Harvey Schwartz, PhD, will talk about the life of Harry Bridges, a prominent figure in the San Francisco waterfront labor movement. Bridges helped to lead the International Longshoreman's Association (ILA) and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU).

Robert W. Cherny is professor emeritus of history at San Francisco State University. He has written extensively on U.S. history and politics and is part of the Living New Deal project.

Harvey Schwartz is a renowned U.S. labor historian and has written many acclaimed books. His focus has been especially on 20th century West Coast labor history.
