UNM Social Work Interns to host Well-Being Workshop

The social work internship team in the Dean of Students Office hosts two Well-Being Workshops focused on starting your career and accessing affordable food this Thursday at 1 p.m. in the DOS Conference Room in the University Advisement and Enrichment Center.

"The Well-Being Workshops were developed by the social work internship team in the Dean of Students Office to address different topics related to basic needs to help support our students so that they can be successful academically and outside of the classroom," said Miquela Ortiz Upston, social worker for the Dean of Students Office.

This week's workshop will feature guest speaker Marty Apodaca from University of New Mexico Career Services. In the first workshop, students will learn about how to successfully begin their careers. The second workshop will be all about food, discussing how to make meals on a budget, and how to apply for SNAP. Participants will also make an easy affordable recipe and receive recipe cards to take home.

"These workshops were inspired by the work of Dr. Cargas and her team that work diligently to provide data on this topic area," said Ortiz Upston.

The Well-Being Workshops hosted throughout the month of April represent the culminating project for social work interns who have spent the past several months researching and developing ways to support the needs of students. The social work interns began their projects by reviewing the Basic Needs Reportpublished last year.
