Cabinet Meeting Summary Published

Published: July 21, 2021

The PACT Government today (Wednesday, 21 July 2021) published a summary of last week's meeting of Cabinet, held on Tuesday, 13 July.

This is the first time in the history of the Cayman Islands that a summary of Cabinet decisions has been made available immediately following a meeting. The post-meeting summaries will be available on a weekly basis from the Cabinet section of the Cayman Islands Government website at https://www.gov.ky/about-us/our-government/the-cabinet. It will also be accessible from Government's social media channels.

Describing transparency as an integral part of his Government's platform Premier Wayne Panton said: 'Having just presented our strategic policy directions for the next few years in Parliament, we felt it was important to take this step as quickly as possible. This solution allows us to inform the people of the day-to-day operations of Government. The more we can be accountable to the public the better we are at transparency.'

Going forward the Cabinet Office will publish a summary of the decisions taken at Cabinet meetings following confirmation of the Minutes, which occurs at the next meeting of Cabinet, usually one week later.

Summaries of decisions of a sensitive nature, matters of national security, matters where publication breaches regional or international conventions, and any matters that relate to personal privacy will be undisclosed.

His Excellency the Governor Martyn Roper said he was extremely pleased to approve the Government's request to publish weekly summaries and that it was a strong indicator of the new Government's commitment to good governance.

Editors' Note: While Cabinet normally meets on a Tuesday, meetings may take place on other days. For ease GIS will notify of summaries posted by email as soon as we are aware of their availability.
