​Publix Support associate is honored for community involvement ​

April 17, 2024 - Publix Super Markets recognized Senior Manager of Supply Chain Replenishment Brad Shiver with a 2024 Mr. George Community Service Award at the company's annual stockholders' meeting.

Shiver's generosity benefits several organizations within the community, and he loves to involve his family.

"I have always had a passion for volunteering, but I started volunteering even more when my two children got old enough to get involved in activities," said Shiver. "My favorite type of volunteering is when I am behind the scenes of an organization so that the youth of our community can get the quality programs they deserve."

As an advocate for youth, he reinforces the philosophy of Publix founder George Jenkins (affectionately known as Mr. George) of giving back to the communities in which Publix operates.

Shiver recalls seeing Mr. George at the grand opening of his high school in 1993.

"I think Mr. George found giving back so important because he knew the benefits of a healthy community," said Shiver. "Although I never met him personally, I know that Mr. George never underestimated the power of a listening ear, an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring. He knew even the tiny things have the potential to turn a life around."

When asked what he will be doing with the time off he receives with this award, Shiver said he will take that time and pour it back into the community.

"I'm going to work in the concessions to raise money for the high school band and go on a scouting trip with Boy Scouts of America," said Shiver. "Time is such a gift, and you'll never get it back. That's why I plan on using this extra time to make a difference and support my community."

About the honoree

Shiver began his Publix career in 1993 as a front service clerk in Lakeland, Florida. He was later promoted to office staff within the customer service department. Seeking to further his understanding of store operations, Shiver transferred to grocery as a stock clerk and was soon promoted to grocery team leader. In 2001, Shiver was selected to help open a store in Mulberry, Florida, and was promoted to assistant grocery manager. Toward the end of 2002, he was promoted to logistics analyst in corporate purchasing, where he helped with the rollout of the new automated replenishment system. In 2015, Shiver was selected to head the forecasting and demand planning team within the supply chain planning and procurement department.

About the award

Each year, one associate from each retail division and one support associate are recognized with the Mr. George Community Service Award. These associates are actively involved in their communities and represent the generous spirit of Publix founder George W. Jenkins. Recipients receive a personalized award, a feature in an internal company publication, dinner with Publix executives, three paid days off and $5,000 donated to the charity or charities of their choosing.

Shiver joins Atlanta Division Store Manager Hermith Coleman, Charlotte Division Store Manager David Kuehl, Jacksonville Division Store Manager Danita Washington, Lakeland Division Store Manager Matt Humphreys and Miami Division Grocery Replenishment Specialist Ody Infante as this year's Mr. George Community Service Award recipients.
