Ministry of Internal Affairs to be established as an authorized body performing functions assigned to police with adoption of draft

The problem arose with the formation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Taking into consideration the fact that the Police and the Passport Service provide support to the Ministry of Defense during the conscription, the function is currently assigned to two subordinate bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: The Police and the Migration and Citizenship Service. Accordingly, the word 'police' is replaced by the word 'Ministry of Internal Affairs' in the draft. Basically, it is a technical amendment. The Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan said this while presenting the draft law on Amending the Law on Defense the first reading at the NA regular sitting on November 14.

Let's remind that on December 16, 2022, the National Assembly adopted in the second reading and fully the draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to the law on the Structure and Operation of the Government and the package of draft laws.

The endorsement of the Standing (Head) Committee on Defense and Security regarding the draft was presented by the member of the Committee Vilen Gabrielyan.

As a result of voting, the draft law was adopted in the first reading.
