White, Policy Committee Host Hearing Combatting Biden’s Blockade of Liquified Natural Gas Exports

Apr. 09, 2024

HARRISBURG - In response to the Biden Administration's blockade of liquified natural gas (LNG), Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) and the House Republican Policy Committee, led by Chairman Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington), convened a hearing and press conference to discuss the growing demand for LNG and the negative implications of halting new exportation.

The hearing, "Fueling Pennsylvania's Future: Liquid Natural Gas," featured the following testifiers: Carl Marrara, executive director, Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association; John Bane, director of government affairs, EQT Corporation; and Rob Bair, president, Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades Council.

In the United States, Pennsylvania is the second largest producer of natural gas, following Texas. Globally, the demand for LNG is on the rise, and this increased use of LNG is having a positive impact on the environment. According to an economic impact report published by the Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association, 500 million tons of CO2 emissions were reduced since 2010 because of natural gas utilization. Pennsylvania's LNG will boost the economy, creating jobs and spurring manufacturing. It will also ensure affordability and reliability for consumers.

"Pennsylvania is on a direct path for an electricity crisis. PJM is sounding an alarm," said White. "This not a partisan issue; it's an issue for all. Pennsylvania has an abundance of natural gas. Let's meet the growing energy demand and put Pennsylvania to work for our state, our country and our world."

"The world is a better place with Pennsylvania energy," said Kail. "Without commonsense energy policy, we lose. If we want to grow jobs, build, reduce emissions, protect our country and others, then we must lift the ban on natural gas exports."
