ScotRail industrial action enters fifth week on Sunday

AS STRIKE ACTION on ScotRail enters its fifth week on Sunday, rail union RMT has demanded that Abellio bosses end their silence, get out of the bunker, and begin serious talks with the union to reach a solution that delivers pay justice on rest day working for both conductors and ticket examiners.

In the three months since RMT has been in dispute over the issue of equality on enhancements across all grades no talks have taken place and no talks are planned to take place. The union says that that situation is virtually unprecedented in modern industrial relations.

RMT says that Abellio ScotRail are using the pandemic to cancel trains across the board while still getting paid for delivering the service - profiteering off the backs of their staff and the taxpayer.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

'It is frankly scandalous that Abellio have blocked talks at every stage and have no intention of negotiating a solution to this dispute. They are using the issue of fair pay as an excuse to cancel trains while their fees continue to roll in. That is blatant profiteering at the expense of their staff and the tax‎ payer.

'It's now time that the politicians intervened and instructed Transport Scotland and Abellio to commence with meaningful talks.'
