Utilities Department Celebrates Earth Day

To celebrate "Earth Day" the City of Santa Maria Utilities Department is holding a special event to distribute household-friendly recycling containers.

On Saturday, April 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., City customers are invited to the free distribution event held at the Recycling Park at the Santa Maria Regional Landfill, 2065 East Main Street. To ensure safe traffic flow, access to the distribution booth will only be possible after entering the Landfill site via the Scalehouse. The Event features no-contact pickup.

Participants are encouraged to take advantage of the Recycling Park (open seven days a week), dropping off recyclable materials, and old electronic waste before stopping at the event distribution booth to receive the following complimentary items:

  1. Fourteen-gallon recycling container - for larger recyclables, cardboard, magazines, and cereal boxes, it's great for the garage;
  2. Six-gallon recycling container with handle - ideal for recycling bottles, cans, and glass, and can easily fit underneath a sink or in a pantry due to its convenient size;
  3. Reusable shopping bag made from plastic bottles; and
  4. Countertop kitchen pail to help collect food waste and minimize odors until deposited into the outdoor organics container for service.

Limit one of each per household, while supplies last. (City customer verification required.)
