Hope Wainraich, R.N., in Pediatric Medicine, is the DAISY Award recipient. She was nominated for this honor by a parent who wrote:

"My son was recently admitted to the hospital. All of the nurses were great, but Hope really stood out. She provided so much love - always making him laugh and smile. Hope didn't just care for my son, she cared for me as well. I'm an adult nurse and know what to do for that population, but a baby? My own baby? I was terrified. Hope eased my anxiety by explaining everything. She never made me feel unwise or embarrassed for asking questions. When it was time to be discharged, I wasn't ready to take him home. Hope made me feel like my feelings were valid and reassured me that if I wasn't comfortable the hospital wouldn't just push me out! I will always be thankful for how she eased my anxiety during a worrisome time. Hope is beyond deserving of this award. She embodies everything a nurse should be - compassionate, kind and cares for the entire family, not just the patient. While my son won't remember this experience, it's something I will never forget."

Hope's manager added:

"Hope was part of our Cohort 32 nursing residency program and graduated in March. She has been a patient advocate since day one. Throughout orientation, her preceptors commented on Hope's poise, great communication skills and eagerness to learn. She always has a smile on her face and her positivity has spread throughout the unit. Hope has truly been a great addition to our pediatric medicine family. This award is well-deserved!"

Congratulations, Hope, and thank you for your commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
