HKBU honours outstanding researchers with awards

Professor Cheung Yiu-Ming, Chair Professor (Artificial Intelligence) of HKBU Department of Computer Science, has been ranked the World's Top 1% Most-cited Scientists in AI and Image Processing by Stanford University since 2019. With his remarkable research and active participation in various international conferences and prestigious journals, Professor Cheung has emerged as a reputable figure in the field. In addition to the competitive grants he has constantly attained, he is recognised as a Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow in 2023/24.

Professor Li Min, Executive Associate Dean of Chinese Medicine, Ma Pak Leung Endowed Professor in Innovative Neuromedicine and Professor of Teaching and Research Division of HKBU School of Chinese Medicine, has established a proven track record as the principal supervisor for 11 post-doctoral research fellows, 16 PhD candidates, two MPhil and 10 taught master's students, as well as 42 undergraduate students' honours projects. She has been a leading figure as an educator, researcher and practitioner.

Dr Yu Yuanyuan, Assistant Professor of the Teaching and Research Division of HKBU School of Chinese Medicine, started her professional trajectory at HKBU as a postdoctoral research fellow and progressed to Assistant Professor in seven years. Specialised in therapeutic aptamers against various diseases, Dr Yu's research spans target elucidation, disease mechanism understanding and drug discovery. One of her significant contributions was the novel discovery of APc001, a drug designed to treat bone conditions, such as weak and brittle bones, without causing any heart-related side effects.

Dr Zhao Jun, Assistant Professor of the HKBU Department of Biology, has been an expert in environmental catalysis, particularly in biomass conversion, biowastes utilisation, biorefinery, bioenergy, and wastewater treatment, promoting the development of a green, circular economy. Dr Zhao has established an emerging standing in the international scene as a rising researcher, with an impressive portfolio of high-impact papers achieving vast technological breakthroughs and substantial evidence of success in acquiring substantial research grants and other scholarly achievements.
