SUBJECT: NM-02 PRIMARY RESULTS
NM-02: Xochitl Torres Small (D) vs. Yvette Herrell (R)
Xochitl Torres Small campaigned as a conservative in this strongly Republican district, even going so far as to feature herself shooting a gun in an ad, but her record in Washington hasn't matched the rhetoric. Torres Small has been a reliable rubber stamp for Democrats' socialist agenda, voting with Nancy Pelosi 94% of the time and supporting everything from gun control to anti-oil and gas legislation.
Yvette Herrell has a strong record of delivering conservative results for New Mexico from her time in the state legislature. Herrell is a lifelong New Mexican and small businesswoman and would be the first Native-American Republican woman elected to the U.S. House.
2016 Presidential Results: Trump 50.1% - Clinton 39.9%
Ratings: Cook Political Report - Toss Up; Inside Elections - Tilt Dem
Geography: NM-02 is the largest congressional district by area that does not comprise an entire state and includes most of the southern half of New Mexico, including the entirety of the state's border with Mexico. The DMA split is 59.1% Albuquerque, 30.5% El Paso, 9.4% Odessa and 1.0% Amarillo.
