Hove Station and Rottingdean Parish neighbourhood plans

Following the Full Council Meeting on 14 December 2023, the Independent Examiners' recommendations for changes to each of the Hove Station and Rottingdean Parish Neighbourhood Plans have been accepted. In both areas a local referendum will now be held on whether the plans, both of which cover the period to 2030, should be adopted by the council.

In the separate referenda, if more than 50% of those voting support the plan the council will formally adopt it at its next meeting. The Rottingdean Parish Neighbourhood Plan Area includes parts of the South Downs National Park and therefore the National Park Authority will also be required to formally 'make' the Neighbourhood Plan.

Councillor Alan Robins, Chair of the Culture, Heritage, Sport, Tourism & Economic Development Committee said: "Neighbourhood Plans sit alongside our other local planning policies, such as City Plan, to guide development and to help decide the outcome of planning applications in the area. These are the first two Neighbourhood Plans in the city to have reached this final stage.

"More details of the referenda for both areas will be announced shortly. The votes will take place early in 2024 and we hope that as many residents as possible in each area will help shape the future of their community by taking part."

More information about the plans can be found online at Hove Station Neighbourhood Plan (brighton-hove.gov.uk) and Rottingdean Neighbourhood Plan (brighton-hove.gov.uk).
