The Martti Ahtisaari Lecture series will continue in Jyväskylä by addressing issues related to European security and mediation that concern both Finland and Estonia.
The sixteenth Martti Ahtisaari Lecture will take place in the University of Jyväskylä's Ballroom on 13 February at 15.00. Further details will be announced closer to the event.
The lecture is open to the public. The programme will be updated on the City of Jyväskylä's website: Martti Ahtisaari Lecture.
The lecture will also be broadcast live on the website of Sanomalehti Keskisuomalainen at www.ksml.fi.
With the support of the President of the Republic of Finland Martti Ahtisaari , the presidents of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland gathered in Jyväskylä on the 10th anniversary of the end of the Cold War, on 8 November 1999.
The presidents of the five republics estimated the prospects of both their own countries and Europe in the public event.
In February 2000 president Ahtisaari gave a permission to organize an annual lecture in his name. Since then, the lecture is organized in Jyväskylä Finland in several years. President Martti Ahtisaari himself gave a lecture in 2007.
Each lecture has dealt with aspects of Ahtisaari's work: politics, international relations, and current world events. In the lecture state and political leaders have shed light on current issues, mainly concerned with security between states.
The lecture is organized by the City of Jyväskylä, University of Jyväskylä, newspaper Keskisuomalainen and the Central Finland National Defence Association.
