With the support of the President of the Republic of Finland Martti Ahtisaari , the presidents of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland gathered in Jyväskylä on the 10th anniversary of the end of the Cold War, on 8 November 1999.

The presidents of the five republics estimated the prospects of both their own countries and Europe in the public event.

In February 2000 president Ahtisaari gave a permission to organize an annual lecture in his name. Since then, the lecture is organized in Jyväskylä Finland in several years. President Martti Ahtisaari himself gave a lecture in 2007.
