SOUTH BANGKA -- To increase the production of aquaculture products carried out by youth groups in Bencah Village, South Bangka Regency, PT Timah handed over assistance to the Bencah Timor Fish Farm Group, Bencah Village.

This assistance was handed over by the HR Director of PT Timah Tigor Pangaribuan during the Ramadan Safari which was held at the South Bangka Operations Area Guest House, Wednesday (3/4/2024).

The Bencah Timor Handika Fish Farm Group said that Karang Taruna together with youth cultivated freshwater fish such as tilapia, catfish and baung using floating net cages.

Currently they only have one fish farm for cultivating freshwater fish, even though the demand for freshwater is quite high both in their village and in other villages.

Handika said that they would use the assistance from PT Timah to add cages, seeds and freshwater fish feed. The reason is, the quality of fish is determined by feed.

"Currently we only have one fish cage, with this help we want to make another cage so we can have lots of fish to cultivate. Then also add feed, because if there is a lot of food, the bigger the fish, the better the selling price," he said.

His party appreciates PT Timah for helping this youth group carry out freshwater fish cultivation, so that it can improve the community's economy.

He hopes that in the future, increasing the number of fish farms will also increase the production of the fish they cultivate, so that they can expand marketing and increase the group's income.

"This takes care of the youth group and the buyers are local people, those who want to buy come directly to the pond. We use the remaining profits to organize activities such as futsal tournaments or volleyball tournaments," he said.

According to him, PT Timah often helps communities in their area through social assistance and support for empowering youth groups.

"Through this assistance, PT Timah has also supported the empowerment of youth groups so that our youth will be more enthusiastic about cultivating freshwater fish. We also hope that the problems faced by PT Timah can be resolved quickly, so that PT Timah can continue to help the community and many of our residents who have received assistance from PT Timah," he said.
