Summer Reading is back at the Longmont Library!

The Longmont Public Library kicks off their Summer Reading Program for patrons aged birth through adult from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, May 25, with an outdoor event at Sunset Pool, 1900 Longs Peak Ave.

Join your Longmont Librarians and Recreation Services for a fun evening outside celebrating the beginning of summer. Pick up your Summer Reading Bingo Board or Textual Pursuit board for adults, Summer Events Calendar for kids and teens, swim in the pool, slide down the water slides and even sign up for swim lessons. Librarians will be on-hand to answer any questions about the program and to recommend great books to check out this summer!

Textual Pursuit - For adults

Read books by category to fill in your pie and have a chance to win a $50 Downtown gift card! Color in each space with the appropriate color and/or write the book's title that you read for that category. Have 3 or more books/categories filled? Hand in your board to the second floor Reference Desk and be entered to win a $50 Downtown gift card! You can receive additional entries for each category past the initial three (i.e. For four categories completed, you'll receive one additional entry for a total of two entries). Download your card starting May 25 or pick one up from the Reference Desk on the second floor.

Summer BINGO - For birth through 12th graders

Be sure to get a BINGO board and complete the activities and/or reading challenges on the board between May 25 and July 31. Fill in a row, column, or diagonal and turn the board in by July 31st to qualify for a free book prize! Finish the entire BINGO board and in addition to a free book and bookstore coupons you'll be entered into our grand prize drawing. One BINGO board per Summer Reader.

Summer programs for kids and teens

The Library will offer many free, in-person events this summer! The Children and Teen Services Librarians aim to bring kids, teens, and their families together this summer through books, play, exploring, community, and fun. View the full line-up at bit.ly/LibCalendar.

Some highlights include:

• A new Weekend Family Storytime from 11-11:30 am on Saturdays throughout the summer.
• A special tie-dye workshop exclusive to 6th-12th graders from 2-3:30 pm on Monday, June 5. (registration required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents; opens May 15)
• Dungeons & Dragons Summer Edition campaigns starting Tuesday, June 6 for 6th-12th graders. (registration required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents; opens May 25)
• A book launch party with author-illustrator Kaz Windness, where she'll debut her picture book, Bitsy Bat, School Star from 11 am-noon on Saturday, June 10. (registration preferred)
• A teen writer's group on Mondays, June 12 and July 17, where 6th-12th graders can join librarians Oliver and Juno for an exciting and fun exploration of the creative writing process. Pizza will be provided! (registration required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents; opens May 25)
• A fun and creative class with Anima Arts where 3rd-5th graders will bring their favorite books to life from 3-4 pm on Tuesday, June 13.
• LGBTQ+ Pride Month crafts and pronoun pins workshop for 6th-12th graders with special guests Open and Affirming Sexual Orientation/ Gender Identity Support (OASOS) from 1-2 pm on Friday, June 16. (registration required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents; opens May 25)
• A June teen book club, where 6th-12th graders will discuss "When Dimple Met Rishi" by Sandhya Menon on Saturdays, June 17 and 24. With a special virtual visit from the author on June 24!(registration required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents; opens May 25)
• An interactive program with Nature's Educators, where kids of all ages will get to meet Colorado Native animals that are furry, slimy, or feathery from 10-11 am on June 20.
• Rainbow Storytime celebrating LGBTQ+ authors and stories from 1-2 pm on Saturday, June 26 with special guests, Out Boulder County.
• Teen Anime Club on June 27 and July 25, where 6th-12th graders will watch One Punch Man (TV-14) and Komi Can't Communicate (TV-PG). Snacks will be provided.
• Two Science @ 6 events from 6-7 pm on June 29 and July 27, where Librarians Kathleen and Juno will explore recycling and sustainability with natural dyes and an egg drop! (registration required at bit.ly/LibKids; opens May 25)
• An interactive and creative mural workshop inspired by the works of Diego Rivera, where high school students are invited to use teamwork to transform their unique thoughts and feelings into a collaborative mural about today's most pressing issues. Workshop is from 2-3 pm on Monday, July 10. (registration required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents; opens May 25)
• An outdoor hula hoop party with special guests Mad About Hoops from 10-11 am on Thursday, July 13. Mad About Hoops will perform a fun hula hoop routine, offer hula hooping lessons, and read us a hula hoop-themed book. Hula hoops will be provided, so come ready to move.
