Recap of Fairfield City Council meeting on October 4, 2022

Tuesday night, October 4, 2022, was a busy night for the Fairfield City Council. In addition to the City's regular business, there were four proclamations presented.

Chief of Police Deanna Cantrell read a proclamation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Chief, who has twice been diagnosed with the disease, presented the proclamation to the Director of the Solano Midnight Sun Breast Cancer Foundation, Barbara Rigdon, who spoke about the foundation's work in the community helping those individuals battling breast cancer. Fairfield's Poet Laureate, Suzanne Bruce, read a poignant poem she wrote for the occasion. Chief Cantrell gave each councilmember a pink police patch that the police officers are wearing on their uniforms during the month of October to promote breast cancer awareness

City Councilmember Chuck Timm presented the Cybersecurity Awareness Month proclamation to Director of Information Technology Savita Chaudhary and IT Infrastructure Manager Eudora Fleischman. Building on annual success, Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022 is set to highlight the growing importance of cybersecurity in our daily lives and look to empower everyday individuals and businesses to take cybersecurity steps by making cyber more accessible. IT will share videos and security tips throughout the month.

Vice Mayor Rick Vaccaro presented the Water Professionals Appreciation Week proclamation to the Public Works Water Division team of Assistant Director of Public Works, Utilities, Michael Hether; Water Treatment Manager Stuart Hamilton; Water Treatment Manager Brandon Hilton; and Water Distribution Manager George Shimboff. Water Professionals Appreciation Week highlights the City of Fairfield's water and wastewater professionals, who work 24/7 to operate and maintain our systems to ensure reliable service and to improve the safety and resiliency for our community.

Lastly, Councilmember Scott Tonnesen presented the Fire Prevention Week proclamation to Fire Inspector III/Plans Examiner Bryan Just, who is part of the Prevention Bureau, under Fire Marshal Steven Conti. National Fire Prevention Week is the week of October 9-15, 2022. The goal of this week is to raise fire safety awareness and help ensure our homes and families are protected. The Fire Department will hold an Open House on Thursday, October 13 from 5 -8 p.m. at Fire Station 37, open to the public.

At the October 18, 2022, Council meeting, a proclamation honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be read and presented to the Domestic Violence Program Manager of the Fairfield Police Department, Lilia Breaux.
