Route 339 Pipe Replacement Project Begins in East Union Township, Schuylkill County

04/18/2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 5 announced today work will begin Monday, April 22, to replace two metal corrugated pipes with a box culvert on Route 339/Rattling Run Road in East Union Township, Schuylkill County.

The box culvert will allow waters from Rattling Run, a tributary to Catawissa Creek, to pass under the roadway. The project will also include resurfacing the roadway approach areas of the box culvert, new guiderail, and signing upgrades.

As of Monday, Route 339 will be closed and detoured between Route 924 and Brandonville Road/Pole Road while crews replace the pipes. Traffic is being detoured on Brandonville Road/South 4th Street/Main Street, Bridge Street, Ringtown Boulevard and Route 924. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution driving through the area. Access to driveways within the project limits will be maintained at all times during construction.

The project will replace the existing dual 48" metal corrugated pipes with a pre-cast reinforced concrete box culvert. The new structure will have two 11-foot lanes with 2-foot shoulders. This section of Route 339 has an average daily traffic volume of 1,402 vehicles.

DOLI Construction Corporation of Chalfont, PA is the general contractor on the $738,501 project that is anticipated to be complete in July.
