The Chief of Defence Staff of North Macedonia paid a visit to Romania


The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, met with his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, who paid an official visit to our country over 26-27 February.

The officials approached the security situation, their talks mainly focusing on the Western Balkans region and NATO's Eastern Flank as well as on the increase of cooperation both bilaterally and within the Alliance and regional initiatives.

The Chief of Defence Staff highlighted the contribution made by the three rotations of the Macedonian soldiers to the Headquarters Multinational Brigade South-East (HQ MNBDE SE). "Joint training as well as the participation in NATO and EU-led operations consolidate the partnership between the armed forces and increase the training and interoperability levels. We identified new ways of cooperation which support the stability-keeping priorities in the Western Balkans and the strengthening of the Allied deterrence and defence posture in the context of the security crisis generated by the war in Ukraine", General Gheorghiță Vlad stated.

The visit agenda of the Chief of Defence Staff of North Macedonia also included visits to the HQ MNBDE SE's subordinate units. General Gheorghiță Vlad and Genera Vasko Gjurchinovski presented several Romanian and Macedonian soldiers with honorary awards during the ceremony organized at the 1st Olt Infantry Battalion, Caracal, the deployment unit of the Macedonian contingent.
