Parliament elected in 2019 concluded its work on Wednesday, March 29. The closing ceremonies of the electoral term started with an ecumenical celebration service in Helsinki Cathedral. After this, Parliament met in the Plenary Hall. Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen gave the Parliament's greeting to the President of the Republic, after which President Sauli Niinistö declared the Parliament's work for the electoral term finished.

After President Niinistö left the Plenary Hall, Speaker Vanhanen said farewell to Parliament. In his speech, Speaker Vanhanen dealt especially with the crises that occurred during the electoral term. At the end of his speech, he stated that it has been a great honor to serve Parliament and through it the entire Finnish people.
At the end of the event, the First Deputy Speaker Antti Rinne gave a speech to the Speaker.
