4th Avenue SE Westbound Closure
Effective Wednesday, September 27, 2023, the westbound lane of 4th Avenue SE will be closed between 6th Street and 7th Street for concrete patching. Work is expected to take two (2) days. Detour to be posted for westbound traffic.

15th Street SE Closure at Mount Vernon Road

Effective Tuesday, September 26th through Friday, September 29th, 15th Street SE will be closed to traffic during the day between Mount Vernon Road SE and the entrance to Kum & Go, for asphalt paving. 15th Street will re-open to traffic at the end of each day. Parking lot access to Kum & Go will be maintained from both 14th Street and from 15th Street during the daily closure.

Mount Vernon Road SE Lane Reduction
Effective Monday, September 25, westbound traffic on Mount Vernon Road SE will be reduced to one lane between 26th Street and Forest Drive for concrete replacement. Work is expected to take one (1) week, weather permitting.

32nd St NE from Carlisle St through Oakland Rd Construction Update - Intersection to Re-Open
The intersection of 32nd Street and Oakland Road NE will re-open to traffic on Monday afternoon, September 25.

Traffic impacts include:

  • Only one lane of traffic will be available in each direction
  • The intersection will operate as an all-way stop, as traffic signals are not yet installed
  • Through traffic is encouraged to continue to use the detour around the construction area, as delays are expected

L Street SW Lane Reductions for Traffic Signal Improvements
Starting Thursday, September 7, the outer southbound lanes of L Street SW, from 1st Avenue W to 2nd Avenue SW, will be closed for traffic signal improvements. Work is expected to take two (2) weeks. This closure is associated with the 6th Street and Ellis Boulevard Road project.

10th Street SE Closed for Railroad Crossing Removal & Permanent Closure
Starting on Wednesday, September 6, 10th Street SE from 16th Avenue to 15th Avenue will be closed for railroad crossing removal. Work is expected to last one (1) month. Once the tracks are removed, 10th Street SE will be permanently closed. This closure is associated with the 6th Street and Ellis Boulevard Road project.

Center Point Road NE from Coe Road to Lincoln Ave Construction Update | September 8

Coe Road to Lincoln Avenue
This project is substantially complete, with some clean up and sodding scheduled for next week.

Lincoln Avenue to J Avenue
Utility work will wrap up early next week and then they will prepare for paving of Center Point Road. This will be followed by paving the rest of the intersection of H Avenue.

Continued traffic impacts:
  • Center Point Road is one-way, southbound, from Coe Road to F Avenue
  • Center Point Road is two-way from F Avenue to Lincoln Avenue
  • Center Point Road is completely closed from Lincoln Avenue to J Avenue - this closure will be in effect through October 2nd
  • Detours are in place for both through and business traffic
  • All businesses are open

Intersection of West Post Road and Gordon Avenue NW Closed for Roundabout Installation
Effective Monday, July 10, the intersection of West Post Road and Gordon Avenue will be closed for the installation of a roundabout. Work is expected to last until the first part of October. Traffic is asked to seek alternate routes.

2nd Avenue Bridge Reduced to One Lane for Bridge Maintenance
Starting Monday, July 10, the 2nd Avenue Bridge will be reduced to one lane going eastbound for bridge repairs. Traffic will need to enter from 1st Street W to use the parking structure, which will remain open during repairs. Access to the plaza will also remain open. Work is expected to last nine (9) weeks. Westbound through traffic to seek an alternate route.

66th Avenue SW Construction Update | August 4
The 66th Avenue project is nearing completion. Roadway paving is complete in Phase H, the final phase of the project. If the railroad company installs the crossing panels for the sidewalk on the north side of the road in the coming weeks, the project is on schedule to be completed by the end of this month.
Continued traffic impacts:

  • Detour on 6th Street directing traffic to 66th Avenue via 60th Avenue and Locust Road.
  • The intersection of 66th Avenue with the access road is open.
  • Iowa Humane Alliance and Tractor Supply Co. have driveways from access road.
  • Tractor Supply Co. loading dock driveway is open via Locust Road.
  • Access to all other businesses is available via Locust Road.

6th Street SW Closed for Intersection Improvements
Starting on Monday, May 29, 6th Street SW will be closed to through traffic from south of 76th Avenue to just north of Wright Brothers Boulevard, for intersection improvements on 6th Street at Innovation Drive, including the installation of a roundabout. Businesses south of the closure will have access from Wright Brothers Boulevard, and businesses north of the closure will have access from 76th Avenue. work is expected to last until fall. Detours to be posted.

Wiley Boulevard SW Lane Reduction
Starting on Tuesday, May 2, Wiley Boulevard SW will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 16th Avenue SW to Williams Boulevard SW for grading and trail paving. Work is expected to last until early fall.

1st Avenue W Lane Reductions
Starting Monday, April 10, 1st Avenue W will be reduced to one lane each direction from 18th Street W to 15th Street W, as the 1st Avenue west from 18th Street to 10th Street Pavement Rehabilitation and Traffic Signal Improvements project begins. This phase of the project will take approximately six (6) weeks. The full scope of the project includes pavement repairs, traffic signal upgrades, ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, and storm sewer extension. Additionally, select water valves, hydrants and sanitary sewers will be replaced. The project is anticipated to be completed in late fall.

1st Avenue E Lane Shift for Roadway Improvements
Starting May 22, traffic control switched from the north side of the project to the south side. Mid-July, work will begin on the south portion of the 1st Avenue E intersection with 1st Street SE, through the end of July. At the beginning of August, installation of the roller gate will begin and will continue through the end of August. Drivers are asked to reduce speeds and exercise caution in the work zone, as changing traffic patterns continue. Work is expected to last until November.

1st Street W Traffic Impact Updates

Starting Wednesday, September 6, 2022, 1st Street W will be closed to all traffic from 1st Avenue W to 2nd Avenue SW, and from 1st Avenue W to E Avenue NW, for permanent flood control construction. The closure is expected to be in place until fall of 2023. East/west traffic on 1st Avenue will be maintained.

This phase of permanent flood control construction includes relocating the 1st Avenue and 1st Street W intersection approximately 25 feet to the west to accommodate a future flood gate across 1st Avenue W. Additionally, 1st Street SW will be relocated westward, and 1st Street NW will be elevated over the top of the flood control system.
