October 26 - 28, 2021

Please join Troutman Pepper's Pro Bono Committee to celebrate the ABA's National Pro Bono Week with two CLE trainings suitable for all attorneys, all practice areas and all levels of experience.

Troutman Pepper is offering two pro bono programs on two different dates with varying CLE credits.

Nonprofit Board Service - Rewards and Responsibilities

This program - featuring speaker Pam Palmer, a partner with Troutman Pepper - will address the rewards, risks, and responsibilities of nonprofit board service by a lawyer. The benefits to the organization and the people it serves, and the personal satisfaction of service, are easily identified and worth examining. While the risks and responsibilities are not so apparent, they can and should be identified and managed: doing so will ensure a volunteer director gets it right from the start and thereafter stays on track.

This program is approved for MCLE Ethics credit for California, New Jersey (through reciprocity), New York, and Pennsylvania. Credit for other jurisdictions may be available upon request. For those licensed in California, New Jersey, New York, and/or Pennsylvania, certificates will be distributed within 30 business days.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2021
Cultural Competence and Humility in Pro Bono Practice

This hour-long CLE will focus on the importance of cultural competency and cultural humility in providing legal services, with an emphasis on inclusive lawyering and the elimination of bias. Additionally, we will delve into the professional responsibility and duties of all attorneys to exercise competence through reflecting on the systems impacting our work. Attendees will learn about how the professional rules of responsibility play into an attorney's requirement to be culturally competent, self-reflective on their own position in the attorney-client relationship, and learn best practices for client-centered, trauma-informed client interactions and service provision. This program is approved for MCLE Diversity and Inclusion credit for California, New Jersey (through reciprocity) and New York; Ethics credit for Pennsylvania; and Professionalism credit for Georgia. Credit for other jurisdictions may be available upon request. For those licensed in California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and/or New York, certificates will be distributed within 30 business days.
