Dignified Transfer Procession for Fallen St. Charles County Marine Set for Friday

Thursday, May 2, 2024

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO - Portions of Interstate 70 Westbound will be closed to traffic between approximately 1 and 2 p.m., Friday, May 3, to make way for the dignified transfer procession of a local Marine killed during a training exercise. The interstate will reopen in phases as the procession passes through the route, starting at I-170 and traveling to Cave Springs.

The remains of Sgt. Colin Arslanbas are scheduled to arrive at Lambert Airport Friday around noon, and then be transported with a police escort beginning at 1 p.m. to Baue Cave Springs at 3950 West Clay St., St. Charles, MO 63301.

Police Chief Kurt Frisz urges motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when driving or walking in the vicinity of the motorcade.

"Obviously, we want people to pay their respects, but do it safely," Frisz says. "If they want to pull off the side of the road, make sure there is plenty of shoulder, and watch your kids. Do not block the roadway from oncoming traffic."

Arslanbas was a 2019 graduate of Fort Zumwalt West High School. He is survived by his wife Gracie; his mother, Nicole; his father, Evren; his brother, Cole; his sister, Caroline; and several other family members.

He died April 18 during a late-night training exercise near the Camp Lejeune base.

The family is planning a private funeral service and burial.
