University of Westminster is commended for research and international outlook in THE Young University Rankings 2024

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024 has placed the University of Westminster second for research quality in London and within the top 50 in the world for international outlook.

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings list the world's best universities that are 50 years old or younger using 18 performance indicators.

Among London universities, Westminster was ranked second for research quality and third for research environment reflecting the University's key objective of impactful Research and Knowledge Exchange in the University's Being Westminster 2022-2029 Strategy. This ranking confirms research excellence at Westminster after previously winning recognition for making a difference in the world through research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

Westminster was also placed in the top 50 for international outlook globally. With more than 7000 international students from 170 countries, colleagues from across the world and a global alumni community, the University of Westminster embraces global engagement in all its forms. The University has a rich mix of international partnerships and places particular emphasis on providing international opportunities for students.

Development of cross-cultural communication and understanding is promoted and supported through the Polylang language programme. Students can choose to study languages such as Spanish, Chinese and Arabic, and all levels are catered for.

Undergraduate students can undertake a study abroad semester or year at an international partner institution, and many postgraduate and undergraduate courses include international field trips as part of their study experience, with the most recent destinations including Kosovo, Cyprus, Denmark and Egypt.

Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) is another programme that reflects the University's international outlook, giving students the opportunity to experience professional environments and cultures across the globe, through interaction with Westminster alumni and professional contacts. Most recently students explored professional environments in Cairo and Mumbai as well as Singapore through the International arm of WWC.

Commenting on the ranking, Professor Dibyesh Anand, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability, said: "We identify as a global university with London energy and are creative and ambitious in ways in which we are international in terms of student body, personnel, culture, partnerships, engagements and values. We invite as well as offer greater cooperation with academics, universities, businesses and organisations around the world in promoting inclusive education, employability for all, impactful research and sustainable development."

Professor Andrew Linn, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, said: "Research and Knowledge Exchange are one of our four key objectives at Westminster, and excellence in research helps define who we are and what makes us distinctive. Our ranking amongst our London peers is a powerful endorsement of the work of our whole community in undertaking and supporting research which makes a difference for our communities and the wider world."
