CITY OF NEWARK REMINDS RESIDENTS: ALL NON-UNIFORMED CITY SERVICES INCLUDING MUNICIPAL COURT WILL BE SUSPENDED IN OBSERVANCE OF THANKSGIVING DAY HOLIDAY ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24[...]

Newark, NJ- November 22, 2022 - Mayor Ras J. Baraka reminded residents today that City of Newark non-emergency municipal services will be suspended on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25, for the observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected. Curbside trash, street sweeping, and recycling collection will not be madeon Thursday, November 24. In addition, alternate side of the street parking will be suspended. Trash will be picked up on Friday, November 25, as regularly scheduled.

Municipal garbage and paper recycling collection will resume in Zone A on Monday, November 28. Residents must place their refuse at their curbs on that day, and pick-ups will be made as regularly scheduled.

The Department of Health and Community Wellness's inspection services, transportation for seniors, and health clinic, will not operate on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25. In addition, the Bureau of Vital Statistics will be closed on both days. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates, marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall. However, the Medical Director and Department's Division of Surveillance and Prevention are on call for medical and public health emergencies.

The Municipal Court will also be closed on Thursday, November 24, and on Friday, November 25. However, a judge will be available to preside over bail hearings for defendants in custody, on Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark's court code, which is 0714.
