Join us Friday, May 17, 2024, for FTC Comedy Presents a night of comedy with Aaron Aryanpur and the opening of an exhibition with art by Scout Ryman that runs through Friday, June 7, 2024.

FunniestComic in Texas 2012 Winner Aaron Aryanpur has appeared in comedy clubs, theaters, colleges, festivals, arenas, bars, boardrooms and (literally) living rooms across the country. Recently making his national TV debut on FOX's Laughs and a frequently requested comedian and headliner in his own right, Aaron was also a Semifinalist in both Comedy Central's Up Next Talent Search and NBC's Stand Up for Diversity. His album In Spite Of (through Stand Up! Records) debuted at #7 on the iTunes Comedy Chart and quickly reached #1. The following week, it placed on the Billboard Comedy Albums Top 10.

While Aaron's act covers a variety of topics, it is his experiences as a husband to a patient wife and an exhausted father to two young boys that landed him a spot on the Minivan Men podcast with fellow funny dads Maz Jobrani (Axis of Evil Comedy Tour) and Al Madrigal (The Daily Show). His takes on marriage and parenthood have also been featured on Comedy Central Radio and 24/7 Comedy Radio. As a contributing joke writer for a variety of programs and publications, Aaron has covered topics ranging from current events to celebrity fashion to Stephen Hawking - sadly though, not a combination of all three. At least, not yet.

With over ten years of experience on numerous stages and a background that includes writing, performing, improvisation and voice-over, Aaron delivers laughs show after show with his unique perspective and expressive, likable delivery. His show has been called "controlled, engaging, open and vulnerable; ultimately, he's relatable and very funny."

This event will include visual art by Scout Ryman. Ryman is a self-taught printmaker with years of experience in both print and fashion. Scout Ryman uses the mediums of printmaking and fiber arts to explore how we connect with each other and ourselves.

Seating is first come, first served and seating is limited.

Oak Cliff Cultural Center

The annual ART214 exhibition, a cornerstone of Dallas Arts Month, has transitioned into a biennial showcase, evolving to deepen its impact and celebrate the rich tapestry of artistry thriving in the North Texas region. This juried exhibition, born from a collaborative effort between five cultural venues under the umbrella of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, has become a highly anticipated event in the city's cultural calendar. The centers participating in ART214 are the Latino Cultural Center, the Bath House Cultural Center, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Moody Performance Hall, and the South Dallas Cultural Center.

Focused on spotlighting the rich tapestry of regional artists, ART214 serves as a platform to recognize the artistic endeavors of those residing in North Texas. The exhibition's primary objectives remain rooted in highlighting the immense talent within the community while providing artists with new avenues for showcasing their works. With each participating venue bringing its unique patrons and perspectives, ART214 has consistently aimed to introduce new artistic voices to varied audiences.

Colette Copeland Soundings Participant Call

Artist Colette Copeland is working on an experimental sound project focusing on amplifying voices that have historically been silenced--specifically female and/or queer voices.

The project will be exhibited at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center April/May 2025, and we want your voice to be included!

Each participant will be asked to choose a phrase or series of phrases that speak about something they would like to send out into the universe. It can be anything that is meaningful for you. Some of the participants chose to talk back to the oppressors. Some put out positive affirmation. The diversity of tone and text makes the project rich.

The symbolic gesture is that through repetition, the phrases become a chant, symbolizing reclamation of power. Also, the voice as a tool for healing and catharsis, not only for the individual who is sounding, but for those who are receiving the sounds. For multi-lingual participants, I am recording in their first language and also English.
