KANSAS: BEST STATE IN 48!

Tucked away on the virtual shelves of the KGI Online Library is a 1948 publication, 'Kansas, Best State in 48,' issued by the Kansas Industrial Development Commission. The title is a play on words. It was not only published in 1948 but also claimed Kansas' leadership among the then 48 States in the Union in certain areas.

Four topics: agriculture, industry, minerals and scenic beauty are highlighted. Each topic is touted as 'Best State in 48.' A short history of the state song, 'Home on the Range,' is included as well as nice black/white/gray images of a sunflower and a westerm meadowlark.

Within the five pages of this pamphlet is enough information promoting the accomplishments and offerings of Kansas to make any West/East Coast dweller reconsider her/his present location... at least that was the hope of the authors!
