2nd UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in December 2023 Fatal Shooting at 4405 Emancipation Avenue

March 8, 2024- A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 4405 Emancipation Avenue about 12:40 a.m. on December 18, 2023 is in custody.

The suspect, Cedric Denzil Brooks, 32, is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court. A current booking photo of Brooks is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Jarrick Hoskins, 34.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Detective C. Flora reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a business at the above address and found Mr. Hoskins suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased.

Investigators learned Hoskins and an unknown suspect were involved in a verbal dispute before the shooting. At that time, the suspect was described only as a black male, 30 to 35 years of age.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Brooks. The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and, on January 30, a murder charge was filed.

Subsequent investigation developed information on Brooks' whereabouts and, on Thursday (March 7), he was arrested by the HPD Narcotics Tactical Team without incident.
