Opening ceremony of Sudirman Cup 2023 held in Suzhou

A grand ceremony was held in Suzhou on May 12 to mark the opening of the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2023. Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen, president of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), delivered a speech. Cao Lubao, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, attended the ceremony. Zhang Jun, president of the Chinese Badminton Association, Chen Shaojun, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, and Wu Qingwen, deputy secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Suzhou, made speeches. Before the opening ceremony, Cao Lubao and Wu Qingwen met with Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen and his entourage.

The BWF World Mixed Team Championships for the Sudirman Cup is co-hosted by the Chinese Badminton Association, the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau and the Suzhou Municipal Government. This is the third Class-A international sport event held in Suzhou after the 2015 World Table Tennis Championships and the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2016. A total of 16 teams from around the world will take part in the competitions to be held at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center from May 14 to 21. At the opening ceremony, Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen, Cao Lubao, Zhang Jun, Chen Shaojun and Wu Qingwen jointly unveiled the event.
