The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted the Training-Workshop on Data to Non-benchmark Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) for the 16 PPA pilot regions. This activity was mainly to capacitate field offices on PPA. The training-workshop was held for three clusters from 15 to 17 August 2023 in Central Luzon (Cluster 1), 29 to 31 August 2023 in Davao Region (Cluster 2), and 05 to 07 September 2023 in Bicol Region (Cluster 3).

PSA officials and personnel from Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and CALABARZON joined the Cluster 1 activity. Officials and personnel from Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) joined the Cluster 2 training. Meanwhile, officials and personnel from MIMAROPA Region, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas attended the Cluster 3 activity.

The activity was spearheaded and facilitated by the Subnational Economic Accounts Division, Production Accounts Division, and Expenditure and Integrated Accounts Division of the Macroeconomic Accounts Service, under the Sectoral Statistics Office.

During the three-day training, the participants had the opportunity to learn the concepts, methods, and estimation process to generate non-benchmark PPA estimates. The workshop also served as a venue to address issues and challenges faced during the data collection, processing, and compilation of the PPA.

The PPA compilation began in 2021 with three pilot regions and expanded further to cover an additional six regions in 2022. This year, PSA started the PPA compilation in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and BARMM. These regions will compile the GDP of the provinces and Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) for the period 2018 to 2022, while the 2021 and 2022 PPA updates will be simultaneously done for the first nine regions.
