Umbria Jazz at 50: it is also Italy's first EcoEvents-certified green festival

Music with the right energy is back in the green heart of Italy for a memorable event that runs from July 7 to 16. Umbria Jazz, which is one of the most famous and popular music festivals in Italy, turns 50 this year. It has also been certified for its sustainability.

Half a century of music in Perugia's beautiful piazzas, while expanding the range of events, venues and even genres every year, in the quest for new directions. This is the story of Umbria Jazz, Italy's most prestigious music event and one of the world's best-known festivals. Its usual summer edition runs from July 7 to 16.

Ben Harper and Enel Green Power together on stage at Umbria Jazz

Since 1973, Umbria Jazz has seen hundreds of legendary names take the stage.  This year's major artists in Perugia's Santa Giuliana Arena include singers like Mika, pianist Brad Mehldau, rock guitarist Ben Harper along with his band, the Innocent Criminals, and former Police drummer Stewart Copeland, while bluesman Joe Bonamassa will be the closing act.

And on the evening of July 13 Ben Harper will share the stage with the Enel Green Power brand, which also shares his commitment to environmental protection and sensitivity to the climate crisis. And it is precisely in order to raise awareness about these issues that we will be showing Renewable Choice on the stage's screen before the concert. This is one of our initiatives for actively engaging the community so that we can work together and create a future with zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The beauty of Umbria Jazz is, however, that it brings the entire city of Perugia to life from morning to night. Not only are there outdoor shows on the main stages, but there are also events at the National Gallery of Umbria and the Teatro Morlacchi, as well as music classes and initiatives for children and youngsters.

As part of these initiatives we are supporting the educational and entertainment area where children can learn all about renewables with simple interactive quizzes.

A green stage for an EcoEvent

Meanwhile, in a region as green as Umbria, the festival has embraced sustainability, with waste separation initiatives during the festival, the use of recyclable materials (for example, only biodegradable cutlery is used in the refreshment areas) and the promotion of the circular economy. The festival's environmental commitment has earned it important recognition: it is in fact the first Italian festival to obtain EcoEvents certification. These are choices that we share and support, and that is why we are present with the Enel Green Power Stage in Piazza IV Novembre. Here there are free concerts every night with artists like the jazz swing saxophonist and singer Ray Gelato, the New Orleans Mystics with their vast black repertoire, and the Afro jazz of Mwenso & The Shakes.

That's because music is also a shared value, a form of clean and renewable energy that's good for people and the community.
