11 March 2024

London South Bank University (LSBU) students have won five nominations in the prestigious RTS London Student Television Awards.

LSBU has the second highest number of nominations of any institution overall, with students recognised across a wide range of categories - drama, factual, camera, editing and production design.

"Competition in these awards is always fierce, so this is a testament to our talented students and the dedicated academic and technical team who support them to create exceptional film work," said LSBU's Professor Lucy Brown, Head of Division for Film. "We are very proud of this success, and it reaffirms our position as a leading institution in nurturing future film and TV makers."

The documentary 'Some Hairs Never Fall' tells the story of women wigmakers in the highlands of Peru and is nominated for Best Long form Documentary and Best Cinematography (Romina Osterling and Luke Reid).

"This nomination tells me I am on the right path which is very motivating for my next project," Romina Osterling, a third year Film Practice student, said. "I am overjoyed that people enjoyed this film and look forward to making more."

The live-action short film 'Trailfades' is about the last night of a ranger living in the middle of a forest and is up for Best Drama and Best Production Design (György Méhész).

Psychological thriller 'Four Soldiers' is nominated for Best Editing (Nikita Listopad); it follows a group of soldiers trying to rescue a pilot.

Last year marked the fifth year in a row that LSBU students and graduates won awards at the RTS London Student Television ceremony.

The awards reward the talent, potential and enthusiasm of students in colleges and universities for the creation of film and video content.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday March 27.
