The European Union Representative issues the following statement in agreement with EU Member State, Canada, Norway, Switzerland, and United Kingdom Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah

The Heads of Mission condemn the two arson attacks on the UNRWA compound in occupied East Jerusalem on 9 May, which take place at a time of increasingly escalatory attacks and an incendiary campaign against the agency and the UN system at large.

They call on Israeli authorities to ensure the security and safety of UN staff and its premises in line with its obligations under international law and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

They stress that the services UNRWA provides in Gaza and across the region are essential.
