IF you're out and about in Tameside in the week from Tuesday 28 May to Saturday 1 June, keep your eyes peeled because you might just find a very special book.
Hidden in and around the borough will be 50 free copies of Konnie Huq's "Fearless Fairy Tales". They will be hidden in different areas each day and clues given via Tameside Council's social media: @tamesidecouncil, @tamesidelibrary and on Facebook.Once you've found a pack, there will be your very own copy of Fearless Fairytales to enjoy, plus instructions on how to claim your golden ticket to be in with a chance of meeting former "Blue Peter" presenter Konnie in person.
"Fearless Fairy Tales", which Konnie has written in partnership with James Kay, is described as a hilarious and anarchic collection of classic bedtime stories for young readers, all utterly updated for a new generation.
"Look for a Book" is part of the fourth Greater Manchester Festival of Libraries (12 to 16 June) - Manchester City of Literature - which celebrates everything that makes libraries vibrant, exciting and welcoming places to spend time in.
As part of this year's event Tameside Libraries are planning a range of events including:
"Playscape: How to Build a Galaxy", where participants will find themselves part of an immersive performance that combines dance, motion and technology and in which they work together to build a shared universe.
"Hidden Shadows" which is designed to bring community voices to the fore. Artist Rachel Riggs will be working with young people to create shadow stories, told through paper cut-outs that will turn old books, comics and magazines into interactive sculptures.
"Writing for Wellbeing" - Thursday 13 June at Ashton Library: A workshop for readers, writers and those who are curious about creative writing as part of their own personal wellbeing. Facilitated by a professional writer from the Centre for New Writing at Manchester University.
Cllr Sangita Patel, Tameside Council's assistant executive member for heritage, culture and digital inclusivity, said: "I am so pleased that Tameside's libraries are playing their part in Manchester City of Literature, the Greater Manchester Festival of Libraries.
"It gives us a chance to emphasise the importance that public libraries still retain in our communities, and to show how they are continually evolving to meet residents' needs.
"I know I'll be keeping my eyes open in case I catch sight of a free copy of Konnie Huq's book. I'm sure lots of other people will be doing the same and hoping to find a golden ticket that might let them meet Konnie in person."
