Tashkent, October 25, 2024 - Today, a roundtable discussion "Foreign Policy of Uzbekistan: Openness and Prosperity for Peace" was held in Tashkent, gathering key policymakers and experts to explore the fundamental principles and strategic priorities of Uzbekistan's foreign policy in the modern era.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has been confidently pursuing a strategic course of openness, cooperation, and prosperity aimed at strengthening peace and stability both in the region and globally. The country's foreign policy is based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and beneficial partnership, reflecting the desire for comprehensive development.
Multilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation
Uzbekistan is actively expanding bilateral and multilateral relations with key countries and international organizations. Strengthening ties with neighboring Central Asian states remains a key area, which contributes to the creation of a stable and interconnected region.
Central Asia is a Priority of Uzbekistan's Foreign Policy
One of the most important and strategic directions of Uzbekistan's foreign policy is the development of cooperation with the countries of Central Asia. Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has placed significant emphasis on strengthening friendly and mutually beneficial relations with its neighbors. According to Uzbekistan's foreign policy concept, deepening and expanding cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres is a top priority. Ensuring regional stability, enhancing border security, and expanding trade and economic ties are also central aims.
In addition, Uzbekistan actively promotes economic cooperation among the countries of the region by creating new transport corridors, managing shared water resources, and solving environmental problems. These initiatives play a key role in maintaining peace and promoting development in Central Asia. Uzbekistan's efforts are aimed at strengthening trust and solidarity, as well as considering the economic and political interests of its neighbors, which contributes to sustainable security and development in the region.
Economic Diplomacy
Openness to international economic relations is one of the central directions of Uzbekistan's foreign policy. The country actively attracts foreign investment and cooperates with international financial organizations to implement large-scale infrastructure projects, including transport corridors and energy initiatives. Thanks to reforms and an improved business climate, Uzbekistan is becoming an attractive market for foreign investors.
Cooperation in the transport sector
Implementation of such projects as the Trans-Afghan Corridor and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway contributes to increasing Uzbekistan's transit potential and strengthening economic ties between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. These initiatives play a key role in integrating the country into the global transport system.
Regional Security and Stability
Uzbekistan advocates for peaceful resolution of conflicts and seeks to strengthen regional security, especially in matters related to Afghanistan. Tashkent regularly initiates international forums and negotiating platforms to discuss ways to restore peace and stabilization in Afghanistan, as well as to facilitate its economic recovery.
Parliamentary diplomacy
One of the key formats of Uzbekistan's foreign policy activity is the activation of parliamentary diplomacy. Parliamentary friendship groups with various countries facilitate the exchange of experience and the strengthening of mutual understanding at the legislative level.
Intercultural and educational exchange
Uzbekistan's foreign policy is also aimed at developing humanitarian cooperation. The student exchange program is expanding, quotas for foreign students at the country's universities are increasing, and work is underway to promote Uzbek culture abroad, which strengthens international cooperation in the cultural and educational spheres.
Openness for Peace
Uzbekistan sees its mission in creating and maintaining a peaceful and sustainable international order. The policy of openness not only contributes to strengthening economic ties but also supports the spirit of friendship and mutual respect among nations. The principle of "prosperity through cooperation" underlies Uzbekistan's foreign policy, reflecting the country's aspiration for stability and well-being in the region and the world.
The roundtable emphasized the developing role of Uzbekistan in the world arena, reflecting the country's commitment to creating an atmosphere of constructive dialogue, strengthening mutual trust with neighboring countries, and addressing pressing issues of international security. Participants reaffirmed Uzbekistan's commitment to an open, pragmatic, and peaceful foreign policy aimed at ensuring long-term stability and prosperity in the region.
