Temora Shire Council continues to advocate for an alternative route for heavy vehicles through the Temora township to improve the safety of our community, infrastructure and connectivity, and planning for our future needs.

Last week Mayor Rick Firman and Temora Shire Council's General Manager Melissa Boxall met with Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, and Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP to discuss an alternative heavy vehicle route, which remains a priority for Council.

"Ms Cooke has been behind us 100% on this journey, and Minister Aitchison has been here as Shadow Minister for Regional Roads and Transport," said Mayor Firman.

Minister Aitchison advised Mayor Firman, Ms. Boxall and Ms. Cooke that Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is seeking feedback from stakeholders to assist with preparations of a Strategic Regional Integrated Transport Plans (SRITP) for the Murray-Riverina region. The SRITP intends to take a strategic approach to future road network planning considering road, rail, and freight over a 20-year time period.

"NSW Government has commited to the delivery of SRITP across the state to identify achievable actions governments can take to deliver beter infrastructure to growing regional communities," said Minister Aitchison.

Formal consultation for the SRITP is likely to occur with Council and stakeholders in early 2025.

"The Minister has been very up front with us, and has made herself available to meet on a regular basis. We have invited the Minister to come and visit with Council, and she has indicated a willingness to come," said Mayor Firman.

"An integrated transport plan, taking into consideration the diversity of regional communities and changing transport needs over the next 20-years, is a sound vision. While this has been on our agenda for a long time, it is important that it is planned right, with community consultation," said Mayor Firman.

"Heavy vehicles and the impact they have on the urban area and community safety must be considered by both the NSW Government and Council when exploring improvements to

road and transport infrastructure. Council will continue to work collaboratively with the Minister on this mater," stressed Mayor Firman.
