City Celebrates Ribbon Cutting of New Affordable and Supportive Housing Development

Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach today celebrated the ceremonial ribbon cutting for a new affordable and supportive housing development located in the Cambodia Town community, in partnership with its nonprofit affiliate, The Long Beach Community Investment Company (LBCIC), the Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach (HACLB), BRIDGE Housing and TCC Family Health.

"Building and maintaining the City's affordable housing options continues to be a leading priority for Long Beach," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "The Wellspring development is another great project that will provide 87 affordable homes and supportive services, enhancing the quality of life for residents and older adults most in need."

Located at 1500 E. Anaheim St., the affordable housing development features 87 affordable rental units for low- and extremely low-income households earning 30% to 60% of area median income, 20 units reserved for older adults formerly experiencing homelessness, and one manager's unit. The housing community consists of a range of one- to three-bedroom apartments, several resident amenities, an expansive roof deck and commercial offices. The modern building design incorporates several sustainable features for enhanced energy efficiency. The project will also feature a health clinic and wellness center operated by TCC Family Health, which is expected to open in the fall.

"Wellspring and its new residents are a welcome addition to the neighborhood," said Sixth District Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro. "This development activates a vacant site with much-needed affordable housing and supportive services and enhances the livability of the community."

The development activates the corridor and brings new energy to a long-vacant site owned by the former Redevelopment Agency of Long Beach. In June 2019, The LBCIC approved a $4 million loan to provide gap financing for the $57.7 million residential project. The community health and wellness center has been made possible in part by $1 million in State funding contributed by Senator Lena Gonzalez.

"The LBCIC is committed to investing our resources into developments like Wellspring that help fill the critical need for additional affordable housing in Long Beach," said The LBCIC Chair Mary Castro. "This design, which incorporates support services with residences, adds to the vitality and livability of the neighborhood and will help the community to further thrive."

Founded in 1983, BRIDGE Housing is an award-winning non-profit housing developer that has built more than 17,000 units along the west coast. TCC Family Health was founded in 1939 and is guided by its mission to provide innovative, integrated, quality health care particularly to low-income families and those who are at risk for health concerns.
