Congressman Cohen Congratulates Kevin Ritz on His Nomination to the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today congratulated U.S. Attorney Kevin G. Ritz on his nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and commended President Biden for naming an "eminently qualified candidate."

Congressman Cohen, a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, made the following statement:

"I commend President Biden for nominating Kevin Ritz of Memphis for the U.S. Court of Appels for the Sixth Circuit where I predict he will serve with distinction. Kevin was a well-respected Assistant U.S. Attorney and the office's Appellate Chief for more than a decade before his appointment as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, and has shown real skill in coordinating the federal law enforcement response to crime in our region. This is a thoughtfully considered nomination for an eminently qualified candidate."

Before his tenure in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ritz clerked for Judge Julia S. Gibbons of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Between college and law school, Mr. Ritz worked for the United States Department of State.

Ritz received his J.D. from the University of Virginia, his M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and his B.A. with High Distinction from the University of Virginia, where he was a Jefferson Scholar. He is a graduate of White Station High School.
