Two of Mayor Bottoms' Legislative Priorities on Public Safety and Road Improvements Move Forward in City Council

ATLANTA- Two major items on Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms' legislative agenda moved forward today in Atlanta City Council.

Funding Approved for new EMS Micro Station

Nearly $4 million in bond funding was approved to build a new, reduced-scale Emergency Medical Services (EMS) facility in Atlanta's Southside.

The City's first-ever EMS micro station will be built on 4532 Campbellton Road, and house some of the fleet of ambulances and EMS vehicles. Due to its location, the micro station is expected to provide residents with faster 9-1-1 response times.

Generally, 85 to 90 percent of all Atlanta Fire Rescue calls are EMS related.

Due to size and location, the EMS station will also provide a significant savings for taxpayers. Full stations normally cost taxpayers up to $15 million. The station's construction on City-owned property will save significant costs. If additional funding is needed, the Administration may work with The Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation to secure private funding.

Agreement Authorized for Cascade Road Complete Street Project

Legislation passed authorizing the bid to begin necessary construction improvements on the Cascade Road Complete Street project.

The Complete Streets initiative, funded by Renew Atlanta and TSPLOST dollars, will happen in two phases. The project will make significant upgrades on Cascade Road. Phase one will begin on a two-mile corridor from Atlanta City Limits (near Kingsdale Drive) to Willis Mill Road and from Delowe Drive to Avon Avenue. The roadwork will include the following:

• Drainage and erosion improvements
• Resurfacing and restriping
• Enhanced pedestrian safety features
• Traffic signal upgrades
• Improved accessibility to MARTA bus stops

Upon phase one completion, phase two will take place on Cascade from Avon Avenue to Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, which will also feature many of the same improvements. For more information, visit https://atldot.atlantaga.gov/projects/cascade-rd-complete-street.
