The City is monitoring a weather event forecasted by the National Weather Service from February 13-16, 2025, with over half an inch of rain expected.
Current closures:
-
The Ventura Pier will be closed from February 13-16 and is expected to reopen on the morning of Sunday, February 17, 2025, upon safety inspections for any potential damage.
Proactive safety measures:
-
Free sand and sandbags are available to the public at the Sanjon Public Works Yard (336 Sanjon Rd, Ventura, CA 93001). Available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own shovel.
-
Public Works crews are on standby to monitor storm drains to ensure they are clear and functioning properly.
-
Powerful waves and strong rip currents will pose an exceptional risk of ocean drowning and damage to coastal structures like piers and jetties. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.
-
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions. Stay off of jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.
If conditions warrant additional public safety messaging, a targeted VCAlert message has been prepared to send to our beach communities. Residents are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on City channels.
