Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers are the Top Jobs in February

MONTGOMERY- Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor's Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in February 2024, there were 83,615 job ads posted in Alabama.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Fast Food and Counter Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Exc. Technical & Scientific Products, with 14,367 ads placed for those occupations in February.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state's free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In February 2024, there were 32,682 total job ads with salaries, including 10,008 jobs ads with salaries of $60,000 and above; 3,735 jobs ads with salaries in the $48-60,000 range; 10,861 jobs ads with salaries in the $32-48,000 range, and 8,078 jobs ads with salaries less than $32,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in February were Walmart with 1,020 ads and Huntsville Hospital with 1,017 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: UAB Medicine (983), Baptist Health (836),The University of Alabama at Birmingham (759), USA Health (479), Grandview Medical Center (446), Cracker Barrel (421), Auburn University (394), and Dollar General (366).

This month's HWOL Occupation Focus is Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters. Those employed in this occupation assemble, install, alter, and repair pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. They may also install heating and cooling equipment and mechanical control systems, includes sprinkler fitters. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need one to two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters also require a Certified Journeyman Plumber license through the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board. The advertised median salary for Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters in Alabama is $57,216. This occupation has 785 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
