LMU Updates Agreement with El Camino College to Further Support STEM Transfers

Loyola Marymount University recently expanded its established transfer agreement with El Camino College to include students who wish to pursue degrees in LMU Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering, the university announced. Thomas Gutto, associate vice provost for undergraduate enrollment, signed the agreement on March 5 alongside Brenda Thames, superintendent and president of El Camino College.

"It is invigorating to see LMU's Jesuit mission come alive through the expansion of these important agreements," said Gutto. "It sends a clear message that access is at the top of LMU's priority list." Before the agreement update, eligible El Camino students were offered transfer opportunities in LMU's liberal arts, business, communications, and fine arts programs.

To date, LMU has transfer guarantee agreements at 33 community colleges throughout California and Arizona. These crucial partnerships allow prospective transfer students to identify courses that will transfer, simplifying the complexity of determining what classes to take, minimizing the stress of understanding which courses will transfer to LMU, and ultimately saving the student time and money. Expected grade benchmarks also mean students transfer to LMU well-prepared.

All agreement sites also provide students access to essential LMU services, including campus tours, workshops, financial aid and scholarship information, transfer counseling, pre-admission advising, and invitations to campus events while they prepare to transition to LMU. "Integrating transfer students into the campus community is vital," said Gicel Martell de Zardeneta, director of LMU transfer admission and enrollment services. "I think of it as weaving new threads into the fabric of our university. Each thread brings a unique color and texture, which enriches the tapestry of our collective experience and strengthens the bonds of our community. This updated agreement reemphasizes our commitment to enhancing the transfer student experience at LMU."
